Illinois Reads Event

Tad Andracki, outreach coordinator at the Center for Children’s Books and Mix IT Up! affiliate, has been working with the Illini Reading Council to plan and publicize an event on Thursday, November 21 to promote the Illinois Reads program.

During this event, you can help to get books for Champaign & Ford County school libraries, meet an Illinois Reads author, and handle an exotic insect (if you dare)!

In celebration of the first year of “Illinois Reads”–a program encouraging the reading of books by Illinois authors at all age levels–and Family Reading Night, the Illini Reading Council is sponsoring an all-day book fair at Barnes & Noble in Champaign on November 21, 2013.

When you mention “Illinois Reads” at B&N, the proceeds from your purchase will buy “Illinois Reads” books for local school libraries, according to wish lists of books from the “Illinois Reads” reading list submitted by school librarians.

The Illini Reading Council is also hosting Illinois Reads author Patricia Murphy, author of Bugs and Us. From 5:00 PM-6:45 PM you, your family, and your students have the opportunity to observe and handle insects under the care of U of I Department of Entomology experts. At 7:00 PM Patricia Murphy,”Illinois Reads” author of Bugs and Us will give a presentation called “BIZ! BAM! BUGS!.”

We hope you can join us for one of these events!
