Mix IT Up at ALA, Love from Carson City Library

A common theme from the recent ALA Annual conference in Chicago is that it was crowded! And, yes, it was a fantastic experience, especially for a first-timer like me. The Mix IT Up poster session on Saturday received a lot of attention from both spectators and fellow presenters.

Throughout the Spring ’13 semester, I remained in contact with administrators at Carson City Library, who have employed a technology and business integrated platform for their system wide operations. Carson City Library was in attendance at the conference, and I invited them over to the Mix IT Up presentation to view what the team has been doing throughout the year with youth services. Coincidentally, Carson City was seeking to hire a youth services librarian who understood what they were to doing. Well, they were thrilled with our team so much they visited twice and took pictures with us.

It is very nice to see that our work and initiative is shared across the country with public libraries and employers of all sizes. It is a shared belief that the work of the University, GSLIS, and Mix IT Up will transform communities and the LIS profession, and Carson City Library’s compliment and recognition is a very gratifying notion to hold going forth.
