UP Center Working with Community Partners

At the UP Center of Champaign County, we are working closely with other local partners to better serve the community with our limited funds/time. Here are a few of the people and organizations that are our allies in the community:

Writer/Director/Producer Jennifer Bechtel has generously included the UP Center as one of the recipients of any profit made by the screening of Scary Normal (view trailer/movie info here) at the Art Theater. We are excited to attend the screenings and hope to see everyone there! The two screenings are on February 21st at 6:30PM and 8:30PM. The event page for the 6:30 showing can be found here and the event page for the 8:30 showing can be found here.

We have also begun to partner with the Illinois Safe Schools Alliance (ISSA) which just opened a new office in Champaign, Illinois.  In addition, there is an organization that works in conjunction with ISSA called the east-Central Illinois Safe Schools Alliance (eCISSA).  Both of these organizations work with GSA’s and the overall LGBT climate in schools throughout Illinois.

Finally, a partnership between the UP Center and the school of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has been established for a few semesters.  There are currently three undergraduate interns from this program working in the center 32 hours/week.   We are very excited to have their energy, enthusiasm, and input in continuing our mission to serve the LGBT community of Champaign County.

Thank you to all of our partners and allies!  We look forward to learning from you all and pursuing our goals together!
