Here are a few events happening on campus that specifically discuss ways to work with and create an inviting and safe atmosphere for LGBT youth.

Note to all: the Wednesday event is physically located in Champaign-Urbana, but anyone can tune in virtually via this link:

Tuesday November 13th, 2012:

Shelley Craig, PhD (University of Toronto) will be in Champaign and providing a presentation on how communities can creating safe and inclusive programs for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning (LGBTQ) youth.

The program will include findings from research Dr. Craig conducted in a format friendly to practionters, social workers, and other helping professionals.

The program is FREE and 1 CEU for social workers and counselors is available for a $10 processing fee.

Fall refreshments will be provided.

This program is funded by a UIUC Graduate College Focal Point award and co-sponsored by The UP Center of Champaign County and the UIUC School of Social Work.

Wednesday November 14th, 2012:

The 2012-2013 Focal Point group: LGBT Research Methodological Challenges and Opportunities is excited to announce their second panel of the year.

In October we discussed ethical issues pertaining to LGBT research. This month, we’re discussing issues surrounding sampling and recruitment of LGBTQ/sexual minority individuals for research, as well as how to define and label sexual orientation and gender identity in research.
