Summer activities

School may be out for the summer, but the Mix IT Up partners continue to be part of a lot of exciting youth programs. Here are just a few of the things going on this summer:

The Urbana Neighborhood Connections Center kicked off its annual summer camp on June 4.

The TAP In Leadership Academy is running a Summer Enrichment Program, a “multicultural six-week program for young scholars entering 5th through 12th grade” in which youth “explore a different culture/world area through hands-on learning facilitated by university professionals” each week.

The Don Moyers Boys & Girls Club is taking advantage of the summer weather as they continue to run their Triple Play wellness program, among many others.

The Douglass Branch Library has a full roster of summer programs, including a weekly summer storyshop every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

The Champaign County Juvenile Detention Center Library starts its summer book club on June 15. Youth in the center will be reading and discussing three books: After Tupac and D Foster by Jacqueline Woodson, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, and Bad Boy: A Memoir by Walter Dean Myers. The Uniting Pride Center has ongoing youth programs that will continue throughout the summer, including a regular youth support group and a social group.
