Mix IT Up! Students

Mix IT Up! Students

Our scholars focus on issues of youth advocacy in library and information science through course work and engagement with community organizations that serve youth.

William Langston

William Langston was raised in Oak Park, Illinois and graduated from Northern Illinois University with a BA in Communication. Shortly after completing his undergraduate studies he worked an internship at a senate office in downtown Chicago, which led his desire to earn a dual master’s degree in business administration and public administration. After spending a few years working in the Chicago area, he decided to begin studies at GSLIS at UIUC in pursuit of a MSLIS. His goal is to integrate his previous studies in business/public administration with LIS to promote library programs that invest in community resources, technology, skill building, and job creation. While in high school, he attended STEM programming at his local community college. He views such programming as great opportunity for many more youth to take advantage of what libraries can offer to their communities.

He eventually became the Student Government Association President, which lead to him working as a Legislative aid to Missouri State Representative Joshua Peters.  He recently started his Masters in Library and Information Science at GSLIS. He is extremely excited about working with Mix IT Up and the Tap In Leadership Academy. He believes the opportunity will be a great learning, and career building experience.
